The gentle hum of the sewing machine was like a metronome, keeping time with Eleanor's thoughts. She loved the feel of the fabric between her fingers, the precision of each stitch, the way a simple piece of cloth could be transformed into something beautiful. This was her therapy, her haven. She took deep breaths. She had been working on a quilt for her granddaughter, and it was almost finished.

Then, a knock at the door, a woman standing on her doorstep. It was her half-sister. Tears stung Eleanor's eyes, and her hands began to tremble. Her whole life had been one way, and now she felt a stranger had invaded it.
